Creative Career Counseling

Why Creative Career Counseling?

Historically, many career paths have been clear, linear, and relatively simple to navigate. Currently, there is increasing ambiguity in navigating the career development process, along with increasing societal pressure to make career decisions sooner and sooner. This is particularly true for creative and gifted individuals who may struggle to narrow down their options or find that their interests don’t align with any known or obvious career pathways.

At River Rise Counseling and Psychological Services we have specialized training and experience working specifically with these populations. We utilize state-of-the-art personality, interest, and values inventories, available only to qualified professionals, to help our clients find and create their individual career pathways. Each profile is as unique as a fingerprint and helps to provide clear direction toward a career pathway that supports creative interests, flow, and personal values. We work to get a detailed and thorough understanding of you and your needs in order to effectively support your game plan moving forward.

We help our clients to both identify potential pathways as well as develop specific steps they can take to begin moving toward their goals. Beyond helping to identify specific goals and steps, we also work to empower our clients with decision-making skills and strategies based on their most deeply held values and passions. We strive to equip our clients with the tools they need to navigate a difficult and changing work environment, rather than just matching them with a single career path.

What does Creative Career Counseling look like?

When you sign up for career counseling, you’ll first meet your counselor for a 30-minute consultation appointment. In this appointment, your counselor will get to know you and your goals for career counseling, and you’ll have an opportunity to ask questions or share any specific hopes or expectations.

After your initial consultation, your counselor will put together a package of assessments for you to complete. These will include questions about your values, personality, interests, and social and cultural experiences. Most people end up taking one and a half to two hours to complete all of the assessments.

Once you’ve completed all of the assessments, you’ll then get to meet with your counselor for two 90-minute sessions. In the first session, we’ll focus on your assessment results. Rather than providing a single “interpretation” of the results, we will work through them collaboratively and explore how to use the results to understand yourself and your career path better. We will discuss how interests, personality, and values interact to shape your experience, and how to use flow experience to help guide decision-making. In the second session, we will continue working to develop specific plans and strategies that you can enact. Across both sessions, we will also identify and explore both internal and external barriers, such as anxiety, depression, procrastination, stress, oppression, discrimination, and educational opportunity gaps.

How much will it cost?

A career counseling package costs $800 and includes: an initial 30-minute consultation appointment, a full assessment battery administration and interpretation, and two 90-minute counseling sessions. The cost of the package can be paid across two equal installments. Additional follow-up sessions are generally 60-minutes and cost $165 per session.

We encourage you to consider making this valuable investment towards your career development!
